ENGLISH LAVENDER LAVENDULA ANGUSTIFOLIA LABIATAE / MINT FAMILY 2-3' HT. Native to the Mediterranean, English Lavender is a perennial evergreen herb known for its sweetly aromatic foliage and flowers. It has blue-violet flowers in June. It is used as an edging in the garden, and in perfumery, soaps, and potpourri. The Phoenicians, Greeks, and Romans burned the twigs as incense, and the Greeks used it in sacrifices. French emperors also used it in perfumery. The dried flowers are also used as a linen freshener.
